Time for forsythia cuttings

The forsythia is just right for taking cuttings in our yard, right now.

I wait to see a single opening blossom. Then I begin taking cuttings to bring indoors. Obviously, I take those first cuttings from branches which overhang the paths and make themselves a nuisance to walk by. So, basically killing 2 birds, here. Neatening up the walkways, and bringing blooms inside to enjoy.

Can't pass up a free bouquet of flowers!

  1. Last spring my dad's new neighbors decided they wanted to put a fence up between the two properties but somehow a corner of my dad's fence seemed to be ont their property (I guess it depends who does the measuring because the fence was on dad's property when it was measured many years ago. There also was a line of forsythia that the neighbor was going to cut down even though it was on Dad's side he wanted to cut them down to accomodate the new fence. Dad decided one day that we would move them about a yard or so from the place they were to ensure the neighbor didn't cut them down and that dad could still have his forsythia. Oh, my, what a job it was. We worked for hours since they were established and we split some larger ones and had a lovely straight row. They all "took" very well. The neighbor decided to move the corner of dad's fence and did a nice job. It is kind of sad that the message sent is "stay out" but mom and dad still have their forsythia lined along the ugly fence!

    1. Hi Alice,
I'm so glad that you were able to help your dad move his forsythia bushes. That would have been such a shame to have lost them. And they obscure the view of your neighbors ugly fence, so that's a double win!

    1. Hi Patti,
The forsythia cuttings are our first "bouquet" for the house every year. They're very cheering to me.
I hope you're having a good day, Patti!

  3. I checked our forsythia bush yesterday as it is in the back of the yard out of sight. It still looks pretty bare. I may bring some in, but I haven't decided yet. It just depends how I want to handle it with the cats. The good news is that it's not poisonous to them. It just may make them throw up like most greens do.
