A Day Trip to the Beach

I had to go to the beach two days last week, for a class that I'm taking. I thought you might like to see my pictures. Enjoy!
p.s. I brought my own coffee, and parking was free, because I didn't mind the walk down the hill. It would have cost $4 to park in the lot, below.

Mukilteo Lighthouse Park, from the hill in "old town", where the parking is free

rocks down below the lighthouse -- there's a bench right above the rocks

the backside of the lighthouse -- what you'd see if you were out on the Sound

I hope that guy is not going to dive, swim, crab or jump!!

the ferry that goes over to Whidbey Island, from Mukilteo

the water was unbelievably clear -- they say that's due to rain diluting saline

just the view from the beach, while I sat on a large log

  1. How was the weather? This time of year, my mind says cold and windy. Was this an art class you are taking? You certainly have a lot of beautiful scenes to inspire you.

    1. Hi live and learn,
It was very cold, the first day I as there. I was quite bundled, but the wind made it feel much colder than it was (45 degrees F). The second day, the sun was out, so even though the temp was the same, it felt better. My daughter came with me the second day, and she and I ran in to a friend, there. And this friend remarked, "it feels almost like spring". A little sunshine will do that to Seattleites. There was a mom with her two young daughters, eating ice cream cones. It was definitely still hot coffee weather for me, though. The cold air affected my head badly. But, besides the cold, it was so beautiful. I could never live away from the water.

It's a writing class that I'm taking. I'm keeping my mind active. ;-)
Have a great day, live and learn!

    1. Hi YHF,
it was beautiful! It's a different kind of beach from what you have -very different from what I knew growing up in So. Ca, too. Our beaches in WA make me think of stories of ships' captains and their wives awaiting their return. It could make a great setting for a series of novels, if there isn't one already, with a lighthouse and all. While there, I was studying the Native American artwork at the park. My head is full of history right now.

      Have a great day, YHF!

    2. Good for you, Lili!!

You are very industrious, and never ceasing to improve on your achievements.

I wish I could motivate myself to do more...

    1. Hi Cat,
It's actually a lot more work than I thought I was getting in to. But that's also a good thing, making my mind work harder. There are so many places in the world that are gorgeous beyond belief. I bet that in some of your hiking spots, you marvel at the beauty. I was looking at some old photos of the Middle East, and even endless sandy swells are beautiful, to me.

      Have a wonderful day, Cat!

    2. My daughter is in the Middle East right now playing in the sand! Well, doing some archaeological work. Lots of sand. Can't wait to see some photos when she returns. Wish I could share them with you!

  4. Gorgeous! Like live and learn, I was wondering if the temperature was cold while you were there?

Are you taking a sketching or photography class? Whatever class it is, I hope you are enjoying it! :)

    Have a great day!

    1. Hi Angie,
Probably not nearly as cold as where you live, but it did feel cold to me. Very cold air affects my head, badly. I can feel like I've got the flu for days, afterward. So, that's the downside of going out in winter, for me. I would love to take a photography class and learn what all of the dials on the camera actually do. That's on my list. But for now, you'll have to put up with my amateur photography skills.

Have a great day, yourself, Angie!

  10. Thank you for the peaceful water scenes. And good for you--taking a class AND enjoying a lovely day by the water. Sometimes I have to remind myself that it's ok for me to do something to recharge and not feel guilty about it. I'll take my inspiration from you. :)

    1. Hi Kris,
I have to do something to keep my mind sharp! Yes, definitely okay to do things to recharge your own self. Moms and wives tend to be the caretakers of everyone. We need to remember to do a little care-taking of ourselves.
      Have a great day, Kris!

  11. Your pictures make me nostalgic. I was born and lived in the Olympia, WA area for the first eighteen years of my life. I have many memories of visiting family in Hood Canal, Whidbey Island, and Camano Island in addition to making day trips to Long Beach. Puget Sound is a great place to take a writing class. Hope it inspires you.

    1. Hi, thank you! I agree -- this is a very beautiful spot. I grumble about the cold and clouds, from time to time. But when I spend a day at the beach I realize just how special this place is. Have a great day!
