The Weekend's Blessings

One daughter and I worked at a fundraiser luncheon over the weekend. Afterward, the woman in charge blessed us with enough leftovers for our Sunday dinner.

We enjoy working at these fundraisers. The work gives us time together, and with other women who we admire and respect. The work would be pleasure enough.  So, it's a bonus that they bless us with the leftovers.

Sunday night, I had enough of this month's leftovers to put together an entire meal for five people. We had assorted sandwiches, tossed green salad, a mixture of small amounts each of egg salad, potato salad and cole slaw, fruit salad, cookies, and potato chips.

  1. Ward and I, and sometimes the boys, used to wash dishes after a weekly church dinner. Like you, we likde being part of the crowd and helping out. And the bonus was to occasionally take home leftover food.

Your meal in the picture looks really good because it's full of many of my favorite foods.

    1. Hi live and learn,
Sometimes, the blessing has been in the companionship of others.
I hope you're having a peaceful day off, today.

  2. What a blessing. I often work funerals in our church. I do like to do that and often there is leftover food to take home after the grieving family divvies up what they would like. There is still plenty of leftovers and that becomes a meal (or a snack) for our family to enjoy.

I had made a big 9 x 13 pan of lasagna last week for the freezer and I expected everyone home for dinner Sunday so I thawed it out. Sadly, my son is sick and couldn't come home. MIL wasn't feeling well so only our daughter came. We cooked it anyway and I sent plenty of leftovers with the daughter to take back to school for her brother and herself. There is enough for our meal tonight. We had a simple yet delicious salad to go with it. And a big slice of chocolate Valentine's cake hubby brought home last Monday. We ate a slice on Monday and I froze the rest to share with the family this weekend. Everyone got a big slice (even our son got a big slice wrapped up nicely with his lasagna delivered right to his apartment by his sister!).

We had a wonderful weekend regarding the weather. Sunshine and in the 60s both Sat. and Sun. We went for a long both days and we needed the time to decompress a little. We have a lot of stress right now. Short story--IRS audited us saying we took an educational tax credit on one of our kids a couple of years ago and now are treating us like criminals for something that is allowed but they won't accept it. They are bullying us and we are law abiding citizens trying to work through this but they just keep sending us nasty letters.

Also, Lili, I took your advice and went to the dr. for the reflux and have some meds for that. I am feeling a bit better being on three meds for the last 4 days. I need to continue to take the full cycle and then I'll re-evaluate again. At least the heartburn is gone.

    1. Hi Alice,
Oh how miserable, with the problem with the IRS. That is every American's nightmare. I pray it will be resolved quickly. In the meantime, this is not what you need right now! I'm keeping you in my prayers, for a couple of things. I am glad that the heartburn is gone, right now.
Have a restful day, if you can, Alice.

    1. Hi Belinda,
It was so nice of her. I almost feel badly when she is so generous with us.
I hope that you're having a lovely day, today, Belinda!

  5. The sandwiches and salads look so yummy. Often, the best things are free. And eating a meal that was graciously given as a token of gratitude must have tasted especially good. Reminds me of $20 in SYWR points that I received "free". I called SYWR to tell them of a mistake (was given points twice for an affiliate purchase) but the customer service gal told me they won't take back points when incorrectly given, so I could use it. And that day I caught a system glitch error on a mattress set we bought on 2/1. I happened to Google the mattress set online and discovered the price $20 cheaper. I called the store and they said I could get a refund on the price difference. Also that day I bought a mattress pad and toy for our grandkids at Kmart liquidation using SYWR points. I felt it didn't cost me more than a few phone calls to get those items totalling around $40...ummm free.

    Have a great day!!
