We filled 2 hanging baskets with begonias and Creeping Jenny that volunteered in the soil last summer. The baskets are hung from 2 canopy trees in the garden, one on each side of the settee. |

We'll continue cleaning up the vegetation in this garden. Today we pruned the azaleas, pulled weeds, cut down pop-up trees, and transplanted some daisies. There's a pretty little Daphne off to the left behind one chair from which I'll try to root a branch. I'll split the plant and move part to the opposite side of the garden. We also plan on moving some sword ferns to this area and adding bark or wood chips as a ground cover in spots to tame it visually.
The patio furniture was my physical birthday gift. I ordered it from Home Depot, delivered a week ago. It's been in the garage waiting for this spruced up space.
I'm envisioning us enjoying afternoons on hot summer days out here. This would be the perfect spot to curl up with a good novel or have a peaceful lunch.
At this point in my life, I appreciate the labor gifts the most, I think. The spot is lovely. You have a way of making things that way. Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHi Live and Learn,
DeleteThank you.
Yes, having someone else help with the work is one of the best gifts!
It looks beautiful especially with the new furniture. Happy birthday.

DeleteSimply lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kris!
DeleteHappy Birthday! What a beautiful spot to sit! Out of curiosity, is the pond also on your property? I've been wanting to put in a small one somewhere, mainly for the various wildlife, but can't quite figure out where with the extensive garden beds in the back yard.
ReplyDeleteHi Cat,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the birthday wishes.
We have two ponds on the property. The pond that we can see from the new seating area is shared between several lots, maybe 3 or 4, depending on rainfall and seasonal expansion of the pond. It's home to several water birds. We had a heron a couple of weeks ago. And every spring we have a pair of ducks return to that larger pond.
We also have a small insert pond in the yard. It's one of those heavy duty plastic ponds that you set into the ground. That one is mostly home to a bunch of frogs. But occasionally a pair of ducks will visit that small pond. We set that one in an ornamental part of the yard that is shadier (not as good for vegetable gardening or fruit trees).
