I saw this . . .

and this . . .

. . . but I made this.

A couple of months ago, I saw this nice display in a store that really attracted me. It was some faux lavender in pots. I really wanted one of these, and even dropped what apparently was too subtle of a hint, for a Mother's Day gift. Oh well. I need to be more assertive with my hints in the future.

Anyway, at home I had a lovely pot that was a gift from my husband for my birthday, about 10 years ago. Clearly, he must have intended for me to fill this pot with something, as part of my birthday gift, right?  ;-) Yes, I thought so, too. Filling the pot with a nice something-something was implied in his gift.

So, the two thoughts came together, fill this lovely pot with something and obtain a charming faux lavender, potted "plant" for the bedroom.

I used a stack of Jo Ann Fabric and Craft coupons to buy the faux lavender stems and a block of styrofoam (I didn't say this was a free project, just fun and creative). I had the moss for the base of the plant at home. And it all came together in about 20 minutes.

It looks nice, and makes me smile. And I finally completed that birthday gift of years ago.

  1. Something that makes you smile, whether it cost a little or a lot, is worth it. Very pretty.

    1. Thank you, live and learn. I think we all need something that makes us smile, every once in a while. Fortunately, it was still less expensive than the store bought counterpart.

  3. Your home crafted arrangement looks very expensive, and much nicer than either store bought arrangements And you've found a way to display your husband's gift to you Congrats on your success! I had a similar moment when I finally finished our grandson's lei...it looked luscious especially with all the bills (I chose $78 since it is the arithmetic progression of grades 1 to 12) tucked in the lei, and I origami folded his commencement announcement into a butterfly. I felt the lei had much more meaning than a commercially bought fresh lei which you wear for that day and is gone after a few days.

    1. Hi YHF,
I would really love to see a photo of your lei, if you cared to email me a photo. It sounds like it turned out wonderfully!

And thanks on the lavender arrangement! I thought it looked better than the other two, as well, and more like my own interior, too.

    2. I usually take kindle photos of my projects but in the rush I forgot. We don't own our own cameras, and never bother to take pics of events, sad I know. We didn't even stick around long enough for our daughter to take pics. The reception was chaotic, dark and the crowd was so tight. I emailed our daughter to send pics of the lei. I hope the lei is still in one piece after the bills are removed and spent lol
