Satisfied

Using every last speck of under-eye concealer and powder blush (there's still a teensy bit in the corners, but I'm working on that daily). So satisfying.

  1. Good post! I don't wear makeup! But I should since I am getting older and the wrinkles and everything else show up but I just can't stand maybe getting a rash. And I'm not going to spend money on that. I have colored my hair in the past but I think I'm going to let that go also. I earned every single one of my gray hairs so I might as well show them off. At least I'm not totally gray but only speckled with gray.

    1. Hi Alice,
For what it's worth -- some makeup actually makes wrinkles more visible. So, you're not wearing makeup may make you look younger, in that regard. It's a bit tricky, putting on makeup, now as a more mature woman. One of those "less is more" things. But for what I do part with my hard-earned cash for, I make well sure that I am using every last bit of it!

  2. I hardly ever use makeup anymore...so my goal with the makeup I have is to not contaminate the powder and liquid. I use cotton pads and qtips instead. My husband always tells me if you're going to worry about makeup and clothes, lose weight first!! (yes, I've got quite a few pounds to lose) But you're right, saving money is getting good use of the money you've spent, and that is indeed satisfying.

    1. Hi YHF,
now that's smart. I don't wear very much make-up any more, either, so what I do have winds up lasting for a very, very long time. Keeping it from becoming contaminated is important.

Not to contradict your husband, but I have had the most success getting my weight under control during times that I was making the most of clothing, hair and make-up. When I took good care of my appearance in other areas, like wearing clothes that made me look thinner, and wore hair styles that were fresh and flattering, I was less likely to break a diet and binge. It was a "fake it until you make it" approach. And it is what still works for me now, whenever I put on a few. (Of course, I also have to take a hard look at my life and see why I am sabotaging my efforts, to try and undo some of those patterns. But taking care of my appearance in other ways boosts my self-confidence to take care of my weight and fitness, too.)

    2. That's a very good point!! But I usually don't have time (or at least that is my sabotaging excuse) to fuss over makeup and clothes very much, and especially at my stage in life and doing physical work most of the day...but in retirement, I'm looking forward to stepping out of the grind so to speak. The only time I wear foundation, blush and some makeup is when we're on trips. So I know that a tiny desire to gussy up is still there lol Another point about makeup which I don't have a clear answer is how long is it safe to use them. Powders, I think should be good for a relatively long time, but creams and liquid??

    3. Hi YHF,
from what I understand, I know that I keep my make-up much longer than recommended. But, I mostly use powders and pencils -- dry stuff that hopefully is not as conducive to bacterial growth.

I don't wear a lot of make-up daily, as I'm usually doing some sort of physical work and I don't like that feeling of being sweaty with make-up on. But I do use under-eye concealer almost daily. (I have very dark circles under my eyes, and like the way I look when I cover those up.)
