Happy 4th!

Wishing you a safe and sane holiday! I made a blue jello salad, filled with blueberries, and will top with whipped cream, and fresh strawberries from the garden, later today. The blue jello had been lingering in the pantry from some event 6 years ago! And the whipped cream is in the freezer, leftover from late fall. I did splurge on the blueberries, though. It was the best thing I could think of to use the blue jello.

And of course, I'll get out my Liberty Blue dishes, and patriotic table runner. My plan is to set up a long table on the deck for dinner, then we can sit around the fire to toast marshmallows afterward.

Any special plans for you and yours? Stay safe!

Happy 4th of July!

  1. Happy 4th of July!

It was hubby's birthday yesterday so I splurged on steak for our birthday dinner with rice paella and watermelon leftover (cut in 1/2) from about 3 weeks ago. Today we're going to friends who live on the lake. They are like grandparents to our kids. Unfortunately, our youngest can't go because she is taking a biology class and the homework is sky high and she needs to get it done by tomorrow's class. It is a summer class, everyday from 8-12 am but for only 4 weeks. She's halfway through but it is tough, tough, tough.

  3. Happy 4th of July to you and your family, Lili. Nothing special planned here although I did hear one of the neighbors fireworks last night, that was pretty neat. :)

    1. Hi Belinda,
We heard a lot of fireworks in our neighborhood, for about a week leading up to the 4th. While it's fun to hear until the 4th, I'm always relieved when the nights are once again quiet. I hope you have a wonderful day yesterday.

  4. Sounds great, Lili!

No fireworks or other festivities in our rural, fire-prone area; but I have old Boston Pops LPs that have Independence Day concerts and other patriotic music. I'm looking forward to pulling them out this evening to finish my day with a crescendo. :) Take care, everybody! Sara :D

    1. Hi Sara,
I can understand, with the fire hazard so high there. I have memories of watching the Boston Pops on the 4th of July, on PBS each year. I hope you enjoyed your patriotic music, last night.

  5. Sounds like a lovely dessert! Very low key dinner here, one DS and GF will join the 3 of us, 4th kiddo is out of state, visiting friends. Hotdogs on the grill, homemade macaroni salad and tossed salad with choice of homemade dressings, sliced watermelon and S'mores. Simple, no fuss and on a very restricted budget!

    1. Carol, your 4th of July meal sounds a lot like ours! Simpler is just better for this holiday. I hope you all had a wonderful day and evening.

  6. Happy 4th to you and yours! You sound downright perky today. The jello salad is quite patriotic. Good on you for finding a use for your blue jello. Chicago Gran

    1. Hi Bonnie,
Thank you. And, yes, I was so glad to use that last box of blue jello. I hope you had a lovely holiday, yesterday!

  7. No fireworks here. All the public ones were over the weekend. I'm hosting the annual neighborhood picnic. On the menu is pulled pork left over from a family reunion a couple of weeks ago, baked beans with smoked sausage, macaroni salad, and fresh fruit with a vanilla syrup. I bought nothing new for this meal. All if the food comes from my freezer or pantry.
    Happy 4th of July!!

    1. Hi Susan,
What a fun day you had planned with the neighborhood picnic. Your menu sounded wonderful, and very thrifty! I hope it all went well.

  8. No festivities here. We went to my brother's on Sunday for a cookout. I volunteered to work today (no special plans at home, and holiday pay is always welcome!). Hubby stayed home with the kids (except for taking them cherry picking). The weather is gorgeous here and I'm hoping everyone had a good Fourth.

    1. Hi Kris,
Was work on the quiet side, yesterday? Sometimes that's the other upside to working a holiday (besides holiday pay). I bet the kids loved picking cherries, too. Sounds like a nice way to spend the 4th.
