Patriotic Tie-Dye

Over the weekend, the four of us tie-dyed some shirts to wear on the 4th of July. We already had some of the supplies -- the dye bottles, a little red dye, rubber bands, and gloves, plus I had a white t-shirt I could use. We bought 1 t-shirt at Dollar Tree for $1, another at JoAnn Fabrics on sale for $3.14, a tank top at H & M for $2.99, and one refill packet each of blue and red dyes, on sale for 50% off (about $3.50 each). Adding up all of the costs and dividing by 4, each shirt cost about $3.50.

Dollar Tree had a bunch of t-shirts. The sizes and colors were variable, and each shirt needed a close looking-over, as some had holes or marks. But the brand was the exact same as the shirt we bought for my husband at JoAnn Fabrics.

A fun activity, and we each have a new shirt!

  1. What a fun activity! It looks great. Years ago, I threw a birthday party for my son. I bought t-shirts from Dollar Tree as well as fabric markers. My original intention had been for them to sign each other's shirts, but they took it into their own hands to decorate them. There seems to be an ageless appeal for decorating t-shirts.

  2. Oh my goodness, I can't seem to click into the correct box--the above comment was from me, Kris.

  3. Love the shirt. You had gloves, but does anyone have blue or red hands now? :)

  4. Hi Kris,
The activity with decorating t-shirts for your son's birthday sounds a little it was a hit! And what good luck that you found the shirts at Dollar Tree.
(Too funny about the comment box -- I wonder if the little square is fussy about being ticked in just the right place. I do a lot of surveys and some of them will reject my ticks for an unknown reason.)

  5. Hi live and learn,
the blue stained much worse than the red. But as luck would have it, we're also washing dishes by hand this week, so our hands are getting a thorough cleaning several times per day. I did take off my gloves at one point and a couple of fingers were stained, but those stains are completely gone now.
