Ingredients challenge -- what would you make?

You have 2 hot dogs, cabbage, rice, potatoes, carrots, cheese, apples, 2 previously frozen eggs, fresh raspberries, and milk (dairy and soy), plus usual baking and seasoning ingredients. What would you make with this to feed 4 adults?

Just so you know, we have lots of other foods, but need to use some foods sooner than later. I'm curious how others would see my ingredients. Leave your suggestions in the comments, please.

We're continuing to make great progress on eating down the freezer. This past week I pulled out a couple of containers of stock, a container of 6 beaten eggs, a container of crab applesauce, more pumpkin/squash seeds, a large container of blackberries, chopped celery leaves, beef fat, bacon fat, a container of ham chunks in stock, assorted frozen vegetables, ice cream/sorbet, and various bread products. We need to work quickly this week, as we're now beginning to freeze raspberries.

I'm really exercising my kitchen creativity right now.

  1. The first dish I would make with your items is fried rice using some of your frozen bacon fat to cook one hotdog, cabbage, carrot, and any greens lingering in the garden, along with frying the rice and adding soy sauce, etc. I would use your homemade bread to make grilled cheese sandwiches with sauteed apple slices in them for another dish, fresh raspberries with milk and sugar as a side. Last, I'd make a quiche with the remaining hotdog fried in more bacon fat, the eggs (maybe crack open a couple more eggs, some reserved cheese, fried potatoes, milk, a few greens from the garden, and sprinkle herbs and spices on top and bake.

Anonymous and I think alike. Fried rice quickly came to my mind as well using a hot dog cut in slices, cabbage and carrots and any other vegetable odds and ends. Cook the rice in some of the broth for additional flavor and use one of the eggs to up the protein.

Additional rice could also be used to make rice pudding with the fruits you also have.

Quiche is another of my go-tos also. If you opted not to use one egg in the fried rice, you could make a 2 egg quiche with some of the remaining ingredients with any cheese you might have. Cabbage can be sautéed as a side or made into slaw. No really new ideas from me, just agreement with these suggestions!

  2. When I have an assortment of ingredients, my mind always goes to soup or stew. I know some people only eat soup when the weather is colder, but I like it all year round. So the first five ingredients could go into a soup with shredded cheese on top. The apples, raspberries, eggs, and milk could go into a cobbler. And I like to eat cobbler with fresh milk poured over the top.

  3. I also would make fried rice with the cabbage, rice and a hot dog. The second meal would be a potato hash with the other hot dog, the potatoes and the eggs (you could even put some cabbage in there). Served with toast with a cheese slice melted on top. Raspberries covered with milk as a dessert or make a dessert smoothie. You could make egg drop soup with the stock and some eggs to serve with the fried rice. I thicken mine with a bit of cornstarch slurry and I like to add some corn or cream style corn if I have it. So many good and filling ideas with what you have on hand!

  4. I'd make fried rice with everything, sprinkle cheese at the end, with a side of apples. Raspbberries+ milk for making smoothies. The hotdog would go to the compost bin.

  5. I also immediately thought of fried rice. I'd use the rice, sliced cabbage, cubed hotdogs, eggs and grated or matchstick carrots to make fried rice.
You'd still have potatoes, milk and cheese. So I would make a casserole with cream sauce and sliced potatoes topped with cheese for another meal, served with grated carrot salad with vinaigrette.
With the fruit you could make applesauce topped with fresh berries. Or add in the berries to cook along with the apples. My dad always poured milk on top of applesauce (as kids my sisters and I always thought this was disgusting, but he liked it). ;)

  6. I would also make the fried rice dish. It and quich/omelettes use up a lot of leftover food in my freezer/fridge. As an alternative I make a lot of hash too. Chopped potatoes and carrots with the addition of the hot dogs fried in the bacon grease. This with a quick cole slaw from the cabbage and carrots (although an onion or radish would also be nice in that too.
I am also eating down my freezer to fit half a cow in late September.

  7. I purposely did not read any comments before I typed this. These are just the first things that came into my mind. Rice pudding with raspberries on top uses rice, milk eggs, raspberries. Fry potatoes, cabbage, & sliced hot dogs together for main dish. Top with cheese. Or have cheese with apples for a snack.

  8. Oops! I missed the carrots. Carrot sticks as a side to the main dish.
