Festive trim for the Thanksgiving table settings

Just a little something for the water goblets.

A good friend gave me a baggie full of these pieces. I believe she said they were leftover from Thanksgiving "crackers" at her Thanksgiving. She gave them to me, as she knew I would find a use for them.

It's a short strip of ribbon and 2 tiny pinecones, twisted onto wire together, to make a small ring. I've put them on the base of all of the water goblets. There are 16 sets of these pieces, which is plenty for our table of 10 people.

I trimmed the ends of the ribbons, then tied the ribbons onto the wires attached to pinecones, and wrapped the wire around the stem of the goblet. Lacking tiny pinecones, this would also be festive with any ribbon, tied to the stem of water goblets.

Maybe you remember? Our dishes for this time of year are brown and cream transfer ware. I think the brown and cream plaid ribbon will look just right with the dishes.

  1. Very pretty. We have a ton of very large pinecones all over the neighbors back yard and they are almost too large for decoration. Maybe I should grab a couple and make something even if it is just laid on the table! It looks like I'll have a minimum of 12 people on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Everyone has volunteered to bring something so I don't have to do it all by myself. People are bringing sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, dinner rolls and pumpkin bars. Others are bringing fruit bread and precooked and sliced turkey so I only have to do a pork roast, mashed potatoes and gravy (I was going to do scalloped but changed to mashed), and a dessert.

Yesterday I had my college kid and boyfriend come home for dinner and we made a complete meal from the freezer and pantry. Turkey and seasoned pork meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, special cauliflower with mayo/mustard/cheese topping, fruit bread and homemade buns. No dessert except for homemade hot chocolate. Simple, filling and delicious!

    1. Hi Alice,
I'm so glad you won't have to go to too much extra work for your gathering. It all sounds like it's coming together nicely.

Yummy sounding dinner from last night, too!

  2. How darling, Lili! Love the clever re-use! I LOVE those little pinecones. I collected a bunch of those one year to use as part of Christmas potpourri gifts I made.

I just cut up some old hamburger buns to add to my bread cubes for stuffing bag in the freezer, and we'll start cooking, cleaning and decorating today.

Have a great week! I know that you definitely count your blessings! :) Sara

    2. Thanks, Lili! This year's stuffing ought to be especially good. Not only do we have hamburger buns, we also have two different kinds of home-made whole wheat bread, and even two English muffins! LOL Variety is the very spice of life, right? Sara

  6. The little pine cones are sweet.. I love them on the water goblets. I. got my turkey 42 cents a pound with 25 min purchase. Pie is
    already in the freezer.
I will cube frozen bread for stuffing today.and will prep a few more things.
    Have a great day.

Wow! What deal on the turkey! I paid 69 cents/pound and had to spend $50 to get that deal. And I made that deal twice, so we have one extra turkey. But the price per pound seems so high this year. I am glad for you, though!

I'm slowly whittling my list of chores and preparations down. Today, I worked on desserts, cranberry sauce and one of the side dishes. tomorrow is heavy-duty cleaning day.

It sounds like you are right on track with your work. Have a blessed Thanksgiving, Patti!
