Hi there . . .

Hi friends,
Thank you, all, so much for your thoughts and kindness. Life still sucks, big time. I can't change what other people are doing. I'm just stuck with it. Anyway, I am trying to pull myself up.

In the past couple of weeks, I have . . .

eaten way too many mug cakes (and let's face it, chocolate is the best when it comes to mug cakes).

the following week I began watching what I was eating as the pounds were creeping on. (I'm using myfitnesspal.com to track my foods and exercise. I'm down a couple of pounds already.)

I am trying to get outside everyday. I have pretty dahlias growing in a pot on the deck outside my room. I put some birdseed on the small table next to the dahlias, so I can watch the birds and squirrels come by for a snack. I have tried to get the garden all planted, but the slugs have been mighty opponents this year.

I have spent practically nothing on groceries in the last week, but am using what we have in stock at home.

We've had our share of ailments in the house: One daughter with a concussion; another daughter, son and myself with varying degrees of colds.

I've spent some time on pinterest looking for closet organizing and bathroom storage ideas. Does anyone here actually have enough shoes to need a separate closet just for shoes?

I did some online shopping for necessities, and saved on shipping. I ordered bras from Target, got free shipping, plus I was able to get more than one of the bras that I wanted in my size. Usually I find a style/size I like, but they only have one in my size. Ordering online not only saved on gas, but I was able to get more than one at a time. I knew what I wanted ahead of time. It's the same one I bought a couple of years ago, and they still carry it now.

I bought some Epsom Salts at Dollar Tree to use in baths for their magnesium benefit.

Meals this past week:

Burritos (twice, one with beef and beans, the other beans and rice), broccoli frittata, frozen corn dogs, hot dogs, homemade French fries, sandwiches -- all easy stuff.

I hope your weeks have been pleasant! And thank you all again for your kind thoughts and prayers. I'm okay, and will someday be better.

  2. Ditto to Linda's post...friends make great sounding boards. Also remember, no person's life is perfect; we are all carrying baggage. Unfortunately we can't control what happens in our life, however we sure can work on controlling how we react....deep breath, look toward the sun and no you will get through this!

PS as for the slug issue...try putting some beer in a jar lid or small dish and place in the garden. Slugs go in and die a happy (if not drunken) death.

    1. Thank you, Lisa. Right now I am hanging onto other people's hope. I really appreciate the good thoughts, kindness, and prayers. Yes, to controlling how we react. That is something that I am working very hard at (but so far, not doing great with). Thanks for your friendship.

  3. Glad you're back, Lili,

So many varying degrees of what "life stinks" might be. Sounds like the family is OK though and that's the most important.

Illness stinks too. I've had a cough for 6 months and two doctor visits resulted in no diagnosis. Hoping your family's ailments will move on.

Simple meals and no groceries sound awfully good to me since I've been in the grocery store every week with a full family of five again. Not so good is you're feeling low.

I won't go into details about our meals this week as I think you don't need to hear about that right now. We made do. I've also had a tough week but it certainly wasn't negative in any way. Your weeks sounds worse. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as that is what the focus should be right now. Lili, I don't know what is happening and I don't need to know but you're in my prayers for sure! I hope you have a nice weekend to relax and hopefully remove some of the issues in your life.

    1. Hi Alice,
I'm sorry you've had such a persistent cough. I hope that your doctor has looked at all possibilities. That must be wonderful to have your family all there, again. Is your son still cooking meals, or does he have something else going on right now? Thank you for the kind thoughts, Alice. Have a great weekend, yourself!

    2. Our son is so busy interviewing for jobs and working a part time job that he's not available much of the time. He helps me sometimes when he is available. Everyone is busy right now and the flurry of activity has risen thrice-fold in the last couple of weeks.

  7. I hope your daughter is much better, did I read concussion? A child's brain injury (still a baby in your mind and heart) is not easy to accept and deal with. Recently I cried at my doctor's office simply because I felt overwhelmed with so many "issues" in my life, just a gentle smile and "how are you doing" did it for me. Lots having to do with my children and a grandchild. Know that you are not alone in your perilous journey through life. We all want what is best for our loved ones, and sometimes at the present moment it may seem not to be going that way. So much tragedy and bad news at our doorstep. That's why I am forever worried about the future, and live practically everyday to control and prevent future problems, but sometimes even that will is not enough.

    You're doing great, Lili!!

Yes, and this is the second concussion in under a year. She seems to be recovering well, now. I'm sorry there is "stuff" going on with your children and grandchildren. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

  8. Lili, so glad to see your post. When so many many family members have health issues, life can be pretty overwhelming. I am still praying for you and hope that there aren't any issues outside of the home giving you angst. If there are, leave them on the doorstep until you and the kids are better! Fondly, Chicago Gran

  12. Sometimes life just sucks. But it will get better. I'm glad to hear that you are trying to take care of yourself. Years ago when my oldest sister's husband left her, she was a mess. I was much younger and hadn't been around these kinds of situations before. I was very impressed when I heard my mother talking to my sister on the phone. She didn't say a word about her husband, just asked how she was doing, then gave her very positive steps of how to take care of herself right then. My sister couldn't control what her husband was doing, but she could take care of herself. BTW, they got divorced and my sister later met a man that she's been with 30 years now. In hindsight, he was a much better match than her first husband.

I hope your daughter's concussion is healing okay. They are very tuned into them these days and understand treatments very well. My son had one from a soccer ball hit when he was in high school. He had symptoms for a few weeks and missed some school. The interesting thing was during that time period, his grades were never better. We tease and say that the ball finally knocked some sense into him.

Anyway, we are all sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.

    1. Thank you, live and learn. I appreciate the thoughts and prayers. Your mom sounds very wise, and must have been a comfort to your sister when she went through such a difficult time.

I wonder how many of us had concussions that went undiagnosed as children and teens. I agree that there does seem to be more awareness these days.

    1. Hi Melissa,
Thank you. Psalm 91 is a favorite of mine. I carry it on a notecard when I am anxious about something (like flying). I mentally picture angels holding me up, so that my foot will not strike a stone. And when on a plane, I visualize angles holding the plane. I appreciate your prayers.
