It's a Beautiful Day to Get Out of Bed . . .

. . . after a merry sick-mas.

Our family had been working so hard to stay well for the last couple of years. But sickness found us anyways. It snuck into our household and picked us off one by one. By Christmas morning, it was clear we shouldn't be hosting other family members that day. So, we're looking at a Christmas 2.0 for this coming Saturday. Hopefully we'll all be well and so will my son and daughter-in-law. The sweethearts that they are, they brought over a stew for us on Christmas night, leaving it on the doorstep to keep them safe from us.

On the positive side, the illness we all have had or have now is very mild. Both of my daughters and I have commented that this is the mildest cold we've ever had. The most difficult aspect has been the extreme fatigue. I stayed in pjs from Christmas Eve through Monday morning. But now I feel up to being my busy self, with long, periodic breaks. We don't know if this is Omicron or a cold. But we're all recovering mostly quickly.

As you can see in the photo, we didn't need the fake snow on the window after all. About 10 inches fell in our area from Saturday night through Sunday evening. It's beautiful. I wasn't planning on going anywhere anyways. And I can enjoy its loveliness through a window from the comfort of my bed.

I had planned for this to be an easier week for myself, buying some sandwich meat, sliced cheese, and a loaf of sandwich bread, plus making a big pot of soup (which I froze), for easy dinners. It has turned out to be especially helpful, seeing that I really don't feel like doing more than I have to right now.

I hope you all had a merry Christmas. I'll let you all know how our Christmas 2.0 turns out after next Saturday.

Back to my cup of tea and a nap . . .

  1. Get well soon. Sounds like the virus and I read somewhere that 60% of us will get it.

    1. Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for the well wishes. I don't know if this is Omicron. Whatever I've had, it hasn't been too bad. But I also know that my experience may be different from the next person's. So, I don't want to minimize covid.

    1. Hi Live and Learn,
Yeah, it was fortuitous that I had planned on a down week/minimal cooking and chores. I believe that God nudges us to do things that will prepare us for what He sees and we can't. I thought this would be a week of lounging, reading, and watching videos. Turns out, I needed those preparations and mind-shift to rest and sleep. It all worked out.
Thank you for the well wishes!

  4. Firstly, I'm glad none of you are terribly ill, even though I'm sure it was a huge disappointment to be sick over Christmas. The fatigue makes me suspicious of covid. It's fairly omnipresent in my area. Hope Christmas 2.0 goes well!

Wow, that's a lot of snow! We had a brown Christmas but it's snowing as I type this. My son has a seasonal job over his break (helping with snow removal) so I told him that each flake represents money. Anyway, enjoy snuggling up at home and feel better soon.

    1. Hi Kris,
The fatigue has been the hardest to deal with. My daughter, who seemed to become the most ill, agrees. We both have had these midday crashes. But slowly, we're all recovering.

Oh, I hope your son can make a lot of spending money over the next week or until he has to go back to school. He could have really made a lot of money in my neighborhood. Many of us don't even own snow shovels, let alone snow blowers.

Enjoy the rest of the time you have all your family under the same roof!

  6. Oh dear - I guess it was a blessing that all of you had it about the same time - and hopefully you are all rebounding and can celebrate good health. The older I get, the more I appreciate the simple things I can still do - eat, sleep, get up and move about without too many aches and pains, do things I enjoy. Good luck to you and your family!
