I was playing around with some gold-colored wire the other day and twisted these heart charms. I made a few and wondered what I should do with them. Then I thought to use them in packages of Valentine candy for my family members.
I made jump rings out of scraps of the wire and attached these to the ribbon bows on the little bags. I think they're cute, and they were very easy to make.
Your hearts look really good. I know it's not always easy to bend things into just the shape you want. I have had mixed results with making similar charms in the past.
ReplyDeleteThe hearts are really cute, they (or any shape) would nice as a broach. I wear a lot of cardigans, using a bar pin or broach to hold them together.

ReplyDeleteI agree. It's hard to get a smooth shape, sometimes. I like to "fiddle" so I keep playing with a piece in odd moments until I like it. But also, I'm not looking for perfection with these. I let myself off the hook when one (or two or three) doesn't turn out right. For curves, though, I bend the wires around a curved object, like a pen. Doing that really helps.

ReplyDeleteOh, a broach would be a wonderful idea. I wear broaches, too. I think they add such a nice touch to an outfit. I'm currently working on a sunflower design with wire wrapping that I plan to make into a broach. It's a gift for someone who I think wears broaches, so I'm hoping this one turns out as nice as possible.

ReplyDeleteI have thought about using some charms on a junk journal, in some way. I'm not sure how I'd incorporate them. Still working on that thought.
I use 20 gauge for small charms. It's the thickest gauge that I can turn tightly. All of the earrings that I made in the fall were also 20 gauge round wire.

I write and craft daily in a homemade junk journal. I choose to write in very small sized journals, so the upkeep is easy and fun. Whatever I want to keep goes in there. A wrapper like the HF mints, a pineapple fruit hangtag because we eat that fruit so often I wanted to record nutrition data, a receipt of where and how much for a soup my husband raved about. I never kept dairies ever, so I'm surprised I'm having so much fun with these journals.
