Hi friends. Today was my daughters' birthday. They both took the day off from work and wanted to spend it with their dad and I. We'll have a bigger celebration over the weekend when our son and daughter-in-law can join us. But today was pretty nice.
I made chocolate chip pancakes and bacon for breakfast. I haven't made chocolate chip pancakes in years. But I knew they'd love them. We discussed what they wanted to do today, and they decided they wanted to go to thrift stores in the area. And they wanted us to join them.
Anyway, we did some thrifting. (I came home with a rowing machine and some juice glasses.) After, we had a late lunch at Panera, using a gift card from my stepmom from several years ago. My daughters also picked up their birthday freebie while at Panera to take home.
I had about an hour to try out the rowing machine before making dinner. The rowing machine will offer some variety in my workouts, as well as work out new muscle groups. We had a beef and broccoli stir fry and some pad Thai along with tangerines for dinner. My daughters wanted to watch a movie on Pluto TV, Real Life (1979), then have cupcakes.
A very nice day spent with my two daughters as they celebrated another year in this life.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!
Happy Birthday to your daughters! Sounds like you had a nice time together. And nice find on the rowing machine! I love mine though I don't use it nearly enough; it's a great change from walking now and then and I'm thankful for the option on days when the weather is less than ideal for walking/hiking and it's not my gym day. I hope yours will work out well for you.
ReplyDeleteHi Cat,
DeleteThank you. I'll convey your good wishes to them!
The rowing machine is going to be great. It folds up and fits in a corner of the family room when not in use. I can watch a video while rowing, which helps the time pass. I did find that it was quite a workout on my hip joints. So today I just walked for my exercise. Tomorrow I'll row again. My husband and daughters are getting use out of it , too. We'd been talking about buying one, but were reluctant to fork out a bunch of cash. So buying a second-hand one at a thrift store is a great way to see if we like this type of exercise. At some point we may spend more to get more features, if this works to our liking.
Please wish them a Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI will! Thank you!
DeleteSounds like a great day. I would be happy spending my birthday that way. Happy Birthday to your daughters.
ReplyDeleteHi Live and Learn,
DeleteIt was a fun day. My daughters knew of a big Goodwill in another town. So that was our first stop. It often seems to me that both of my daughters know all of the thrift stores in the entire Seattle region.
I'll share your birthday wishes with them. Thank you!
Happy birthday to your daughters! How nice that they wanted to spend it with you and your husband. :) I'm a little jealous of your rowing machine (I like to use the one at the gym).
ReplyDeleteHi Kris,
DeleteI know. I'm thrilled that they still want to spend time with us. They've been doing other things this week with others, but they saved their actual birthday for us.
At least you have access to a rowing machine at the gym. There are pluses to not having one at home. Like you don't have to spend the money to buy one and you don't have to store it someplace when not in use. But if you ever think you'd want to buy any exercise equipment, look for previously-used pieces. In our area, there are a lot of them at garage sales for not much, and at this large Goodwill in a neighboring city, they had a decent collection of equipment. Buying second-hand would allow you an opportunity to try having one in your house to see if you actually want that situation, without spending a lot of money up front. Just a suggestion. I know a lot of folks spent big money on equipment in 2020, and now don't want to have it in their homes. There's a lot on the used market, even now 6 years later.
Oh! Birthdays are always fun but I think celebrating my children's birthdays is extra fun. That sounds like a perfect day! Happy birthday to your daughters. 🎉
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Ladies! I love that you chose to be with your parents. That's a sign of good parenting!
ReplyDeleteNow I might be the only one who doesn't know what a rowing machine is. We don't go to a gym and have no exercise equipment at home except a stationery bike that no one uses. But we do have the great outdoors (when the weather is nice, otherwise just walk around in stores or the mall). We also have outdoor bicycles that we will use when it gets warmer.
